Photos for Digipak and Adverstiment (planning)

theses are the photos i plan to use for my digipak and advertisment.. thses are the raw photos

overview of 'Do's and dont's' of design work (planning)

Do
- use clear font for your digipak that is consistance throughout
- use clear photos that are not out of focus or a bad shot as this wouldnt look good, also they are the right size for the 12x12cm layout.
- follow general conventions of digipaks, for example for girl pop artist on the front cover a close up on the girl
- make sure the font flows with the background, graphic design
-only have three colours though out
-arrange logo company, barcode and title ect properly.

Dont
-Stretch photos
- use pointless layer styles and  effects they must match the genre
- place text across the artist face on the cover
- use a font just because you like it as everything has to tie into the image of the artist and the genre.

Shortlist of fonts, colours layouts and design ideas (planning)

The colour our group desided to choice was; Black, pink, purple and blue. This was because we wanted to link to our video to a item of clothing Bee was wearing in the video. A flowery top with theses colours.

The font had to be easy going, fun and unformal like bee protrays herself to be.These are a few fonts im considering.

I feel that impact could be for the title as its bold and eye catching.

There is a colour layout/design patten i feel that is going to be used throughout the digipak. i feel this on a coloured background would look good. This is a patten used by our whole group.

Overview of Do's and Don'ts of design work (PLANNING)

For my digipak  to be successful I must include certain areas and also have to make sure i don't include other parts.

DO'S

  • Use a clear font
  • Use appropiate sizes for images and font
  • Use clear photos that are in focus
  • Use photos that are an appropriate shape for the page
  • Make sure the font is clear from a distance
  • Follow the conventions of the 3 colour rule and use colour that is appropriate for
    • Images
    • Font
    • Background
  • Use appropriate industry logos and conventions, properly positioned:
    • Barcode
    • Date
    • Copyright
    • Titles
    • Artist Name

Dont's

  • Stretch the images, this will make them out of focus
  • Use layer styles
  • Use unnecessary effects, they must suit the genre

  • You dont need to have a photo on every panel

Analysis of three pop digipaks (research)

Kesha's front cover( pop/mainstream)
I feel this is a good digipak because it has the typical convetions of a womens pop artist cover with a close up of there face. This picture is in black and white with gold glitery lips, this stands out and makes a statements and catches the eye of the buyer which is the overall aim for the digipak. i feel this is a effective as its very distintive in shops when people are looking to buy a cd of there favourate singer. Also Keshas Digipak has used effects but it works well as the background as kesha's face is sorrounded by a white glow then on a dark background which also makes it stand out. The colour scheme for her abulm is gold glitter font which is bold  this runs though out which makes you know its her digipak and gives the artist her own image.

This is what would be located inside the digipak, as you can see shes got the same styled font with is gold glittery this is a strong method as the buyer can make a link between the inside and out of the cover.
This is the back where the barcode, tracklist, record label  is located. The theme is still strong on this panel and it has all the typical convetions of a digipak for example the bar code.

Loud

This is rihannas digipak for Loud, even though she isnt a pop artist shes still very mainstream and i feel this is a good digipak to analyise. Rihanna took a very differnet approch compared to kesha when it comes to her front cover as its a very simple cover with once again the conventional close up with the title in the right place under her  face without effects. The colour red really stands out as its dominate over the other colours and it comes up alot. On her backcover the bar code is there and the tracklist with a picture of her which you could link together.Rihanna has a very distintive sytle as theres a strong link inbetween her digipak and her video on the abulm 'only girl' The hair is the same which stands out and would make people recoginze her video. i would like to use this technique with my digipak.

Jason derulo

This is another pop digipak which has a close up of the face, this time a man with a plan title. The way Jason derulo is wrote on the title in bold font is something he uses alot with his work, this makes it recongizable. He has used a simple effect, not as complicated as kesha. He has put a blue hint to the raw photo and used this blue hint thoughout. I dont like this digipak to be honest as i find it boring and it wouldnt stand out to me, i feel that the picture should be giving eye contact or they should have used the orginal photo in order to make it look pleasing to the eye.

Analysis of three advertisements (research)

There are many differnet types of advertisments, as part of our a2 grade for media we have to make a promotional package for our music video including a piece of adverstisment now im going to help decision making for my advertisment by ananylising three from my genre which is pop.

Three advertisments.
My first piece of adverstiment is from pixie lott, this is a promotional piece which you can clearly link to her album as the main picture in the middle is the same picture from her front cover of ' Turn it up'. This is a strong technique to use as it gives the audeince a visual link in there head giving the artist there own name and image. This adverstisment is very simple but sometimes the most simple ones are effective. It is promoting her album being on sale in itunes, which people can buy. This advertisment contants her name in the same style of font as her album as well. lastly she has used a design to represent her in the background behind the picture, this makes the picture stand out and your eyes to draw to the picture.

my next advertisment is a piece that is  promoting katy perrys tour dates, it represents katy perrys typical style of being differnet with bright colours. This is a animated picture of katy perry with her name, album name and tour dates. The bight pink animations attract people to look at this image and wonder about the tour dates, the simpleness of it makes people want to know when the tour dates are and if they should buy tickets. major katy fans would see this know what singer it and go straight for tickets. i feel a weekness in this advertisment is that it doesnt give reader enough and they may not look futher to buy tickets or the album also there is no record company.

my last advertisment is from Lily allen. I personally like this advertisment the most as it is clear ,with a picture of her, her  tour dates where u can download them, and even a place promiting her album with abit of information about it. Even though katy perry also advertised tour dates this one says when and where, meaning people dont have to put more effort into find out when. also the colour scheme is simple with no graphics apart from the way her name is written which is a standard thing. The picture of lily is big and you would be able to clearly see who its advertising.

Digipak & Avertisement Design Brief - My thoughts (PLANNING)

Digipak

As a group we decided that we needed to have the same:

  • Colour scheme: For our colour scheme we are using Black, Pink, Purple, Yellow and Blue

  • Font style: We have made a selection of fonts which we will use in our Digipak and advertisement

  • Graphics: We have made a decision to use a floral pattern using swirls and different colours, although we may not all use the same colour we will all use the pattern

  • Song list: As a group we came up with a list of song names that we think represent the album

  • Name of the artist: The artist is originally called Becky but as a group we thought BEE represented out artist better

  • Name of the album: We have decided to call our album Love on a Stick

The decisions i have to make on my own are:

  • The Number of panels i have: I have chosen to have a six panel digipak. This is because when i made the first mock up of the digipak i realised i didn't have enough space for what i wanted to put into the digipak.

  • The content of each panel:
  • Front Cover
  • Back Cover
  • Cd Cover
  • Record Company Cover
  • Thank you's
  • The making of the hit single "Smile"

  • The choice of images on each panel

The decisions we made as a group are:

  • The colour scheme: We are using the same colour scheme of the Digipak, this is so that the audience are able to see the link between the advert and the Digipak

  • Font Style: The same fonts will be used for the digipak as well as the advertisement

  • Graphics: We will be using the same floral pattern we chose to use on our own individual digipak.

  • Song List: The song list is the same as the tracks on the digipak

  • Name of Artist and Album: The name of the Artist will also be the same Becky known as "BEE"

  • Date of release: The release date of the album is 20th December 2011. This is because it is near christmas and therefore should be a sell out and a christmas hit.

  • Web Address: The web address for Bee is www.BEEMusic.co.uk. We decided to use this as we think it looks professional.

The decisions i have made are:

  • The choice of images used

  • The positioning of items on the poster

Analysis of three digipaks (RESEARCH)

Analysis of pop digipaks

Katy Perry

Katy Perry is a world wide known artist. She is a similar artist to Lily Allen as they are in the same genre. Katy has used a funky CD image, which is describing her personality. She also has put herself on the inside covers of her digipak. The images are from the videos in her album.

The image above is the front cover of her album "one of the boys". Her name is in the centre of the album in a clear pink font so her audience know it is her from a distance, also, with a clear image of herself.  Katy Perry is wearing a very revealing top and shorts, which is the stereotype for the pop genre as many artists wear revealing clothes for the album cover. Also, by having flowers and a pink font colour, she is showing the audience that she is a typical girlie girl.

Lady GaGa

Lady Gaga is also a world wide known pop star with her latest album 'The Fame Monster'. Lady Gaga has use big bold font for her name and artist, she has used a white coloured font, which contrasts against the black and the grey, making it clear for the audience to recognise. However, she has used an even  bigger picture of herself on the cover of her album, so she is recognisable. From the images you are able to see that Lady Gaga's digipak has many pictures of her dressed in wild clothes, something which we see a lot of in her videos, by doing this it makes the audience recognise the singer if they do not know her well. Her album cover is different from the typical pop stereotype as it is not colourful and she is not wearing revealing clothes. She has opted for dark colours, which could be representing who she really is.

Rihanna
Rihanna is another international know pop princess. She is so well known that she doesn't have to put her name on her album, as everyone already recognises. Rihanna has used a picture for the front of her album which covers all the space. By doing this the audience can automatically tell who the artist is. Rihanna also has bright red hair, which is recognisable from her latest videos from her album 'LOUD'. On the inside of her digipak she has used an image to cover the inside panels. The image relates to her video, so the audience are able to tell its her album even if there is no name on it. However, she has used a very thin font for the album name, that you may not be able to see from a distance.

Analysis of three advertisements (RESEARCH)

Analysis of Adverts

Lily Allen
Lily Allen has used the same font as her album for her advertisement, this is showing the link for her audience between her album cover and advert. Also, she has a photo of her album cover so people are able to see that the advert is for her. She has used a clear font for the writing so people are able to read it easily and quickly if they are passing the poster.

Christina Aguilera
Christina has used the same font that is on her album, alerting her audience that this is the tour for her album. She has also put a image of the front cover of the album, also showing linking the album to the advert. Christina has used a clear font for the tour dates, which makes it easy for the audience to read. She has also used a big image of herself on the photo, so the audience does not have to read the text, they will instantly know it is her.
